Since planning a kitchen is so involved, I asked for some tips from my friends at LOVE IT OR LIST IT, seen on W NETWORK. Desta Ostapyk, Assistant Designer on the show, has shared some basic guidelines that she keeps front and centre when working with Hilary to plan the kitchens which they remodel(to convince their homeowners to stay in their homes). Let me tell you, if you have seen the kitchens they do, you’ll understand why the homeowners stay more often than not.
Together with Desta’s points and guidelines from the National Kitchen and Bath Association’s Kitchen Planning and Access Standards, I have put together a way for you to plan your next kitchen layout.
Whether you intend to use a designer or to remodel your kitchen on your own, start your ideas and planning by using this format. It will certainly help you to keep focused and ensure that you end up with the kitchen that you really dream about and not the nightmare!
Step 1: SET YOUR VISION
The best way to do this is to ask yourself some pointed questions and make sure your answers fit your lifestyle.
For example:
If you have a young family and your lifestyle is packed full of meals and having snacks and drinks on hand for the kids, you’ll surely want a large refrigerator and possibly a smaller beverage fridge that can house drinks and snacks(so the kids can find exactly what they are looking for and not rummage through the main fridge).
If you are empty nesters and you are looking to style up your abode, you can get away with a counter-depth fridge and focus more on space to entertain guests…or have a phone close by to order in :O)
